Frequent followers of our updates know that we like to refresh our shelves. Returning from Winter Break, the kiddos are always excited to find fresh and new materials on our shelves for them to work with. The chill of January was no exception to this, and we got to do it again for February!
First up for discussion–especially for older students–was our celebrations of Martin Luther King and his quest for peace and justice for all. However, when his birthday came around this year, we were greeted by the cold snap, which is the theme of most of the new materials we have set out: snowflakes, snow persons, and all things winter.
On the creative side, our colorers, puzzlers, cutters and stampers have much to so choose from–see pics below. Our perforators are testing the endurance of their fingers with mittens, snowflakes and snow people. Yes, it’s true, while we haven’t had any actual snow here in Austin this year (not yet…) in our classroom we find snowflakes, snow-persons and several of our books about snow. (The Snowy Day may be our favorite!) How can you not get excited about even the possibility that it might snow?
And now it’s February and we get to layer all of that with Valentines and Lunar New Year as the year of the Dragon begins. This week we were even so lucky to have a parent bring us a King’s Cake for Mardi Gras. Such a fun time of year!
